Potentiometers

There are 2 common types of 'pot' used in guitars Linear and Logarithmic (audio taper), as they are turned more of the signal is sent to ground, for a volume pots this just reduces the sound, with a tone pot (and capacitor) it will send Treble to ground and the volume should stay the same.

Audio Taper (log) pots have a stronger effect on the sound when the pot is turned where as with linear taper pots, they will not seem to have any effect from about 2-3 on the knob up to 10.

The Markings on pots have changed over the years, making it confusing to identify which is which...

Taper            Old Code             New Code             Alternate
Linear             A                          B                           LIN
Log (Audio)    C                         A                           LOG
